Day 57: October 5, 2013 – Granddaddy and Gallery Hop

Today (Saturday) is an important day for two reasons… 10/5 was Mom’s father’s birthday. Granddaddy was the only grandfather I knew, because Dad’s father died in 1960, eight years before I was born. Granddaddy was born on October 5, 1903. That’s 110 years ago. He lived through both World Wars and the Great Depression. He was born the same year the Wright Brothers flew the first flight at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina… he died in November 1988, so he’s been gone a long time.

The other reason today is significant is that it was Gallery Hop.

I set up a photo walk for my photography group to shoot the sights of Gallery Hop, a monthly arts walk in the Short North neighborhood of Columbus. The first Saturday night of each month, the art galleries and shops stay open late and people can walk around and enjoy the art on display.

It rained off and on all afternoon, so only 7 of us showed up. That includes me and Candy. But we had a good time anyway. We saw some interesting characters.

They were handing out flyers promoting Highball Halloween, coming up at the end of the month.

We did a lot of window shopping in the antique stores and had a lot of fun.

So today (Saturday) I’m thankful for Granddaddy and all the memories I have of him, and I’m thankful for Gallery Hop and all the new memories Candy and I made on this night.

Day 54: October 2, 2013 – memory lane

Today I’m thankful for my photo album…. Well, I don’t REALLY have a photo album. Most of my photos are of the digital variety, and safely hidden in my computer backup drive. Lately, I realized that since my laptop hard drive filled up and I had to delete many old photos from it, that if my backup drive crashed, I’d lose almost all my photos. So I found a good cheap backup drive to backup my backup, if that makes any sense.

Tonight, I’ve been trying to merge folders upon folders upon folders of photos…. trying to figure out which ones are duplicates and trying to decide if it’s even worth worrying about tonight. As it gets later, I’m thinking the hard decisions can come later. I just need to finish this up so I can go to bed.

But, back to what I’m thankful for….. I’m thankful for all the memories these photos are bringing back. Fun times with my kids and friends and family members… Family and friends who are no longer with us… Some people I saw today. I thought about posting some pics, but I’d be here all night. And I will post a few in tomorrow’s blog I’m sure.

Day 45: September 23, 2013 – exploring the neighborhood

Today I’m thankful for Vince taking me on a little trip through the neighborhood. I didn’t realize that just a short trip down the street is a YMCA and one of Vince’s favorite restaurants. The Y has a 1/17 mile track… I know, that’s a weird measurement, isn’t it? … and I walked one and 12/17 miles while he jogged. Then we went and had fish and shrimp for dinner and a nice long talk. Always good to catch up with your friends.
